‘We’re trying to sell our foam roller here, at the market of project ‘import enterprise’. We had to do research to find a product that we could buy in Asia and sell here.’

What is a foam roller?

‘The roller simulates the hand of a physiotherapist and the ridges on the roller simulate the thumb. When you use the roller, it feels like getting a massage. You don’t need a masseur for this, since you can press it between your back and the wall or lay down on the floor with it. Many physiotherapists recommend the roller.’

But that means they’re making themselves redundant…

‘No, not at all. This is an addition to their work.’

Why did you choose the foam roller?

‘In the course of our research, we had a good look at ourselves and found that all of us are engaged in some type of sport. Football, dancing, rugby, fitness… and two boys are playing basketball. Our research further showed that 70 percent of people treated by a physiotherapist suffer from sports injuries. This contrasts sharply with our drive to attain a healthy lifestyle and a sound body. This is where the foam roller can help.’

What did you learn during this project?

‘We really learned that research is important and that it’s good to choose a product that suits you. In addition, we were made to think about things like liability. You must explain well how to use the foam roller and you must inform the user that he or she should always visit a physiotherapist in case of pain.’
