RBS study programmes to move to Posthumalaan for 4 to 5 years

The RBS Bachelor programmes will be moving to the upper floors of the ROC Zadkine building at 120 Posthumalaan (close to Inholland and Wilhelminaplein metro station) for a period of four to five years. Most of the RBS students are now at the WTC on the Beursplein.

Het gebouw van Zadkine aan de Posthumalaan

The RBS students ended up there last January after it was determined that building section C of the Kralingse Zoom location is not safe in the case of fire. It soon became clear that the WTC could not be rented for a longer period of time.

From one and a half to five years

In the meantime, the decision whether to convert building section C of the Kralingse Zoom or to construct a new building on that site has been and is still being carefully considered. At first, a conversion was expected to last about a year and a half. Now it is expected to last four to five years. The RBS study programmes will not return to the Kralingse Zoom any sooner than this.

Because the Zadkine building is already in use for teaching purposes, small modifications will be enough, according to the HR spokesperson. ‘There are enough classrooms and project rooms, workplaces for students, good catering facilities and a roof terrace.’ The space to be rented is larger than in the WTC but smaller than building section C of the Kralingse Zoom.

Four Schools with one executive board

HR has issued a communiqué about the move to Posthumalaan which also marks the previously announced creation of Hogeschool Rotterdam Business School (HRBS).

HRBS will become a reality on 1 January 2019. Then the four current economic Schools, RBS, IFM, IBK and COM will be dissolved and all the study programmes will be managed by the HRBS four-person board.

The decision is in line with the HR policy of decentralising and giving teachers, study programme teams and course managers more say.

HRBS must position itself as a collective

It is expected that the study programmes will collaborate with other HRBS study programmes ‘so that they can mutually profit from each other’s knowledge, skill and educational resources’.

The executive board considers it important that HRBS should position itself as a collective. The priority for the next six months is to optimise the provision of services within the future HRBS.

‘A formal reorganisation’ is coupled to the creation of HRBS. The four Deans will set to work on this. More information will be available in June once the representative bodies have been notified. The spokesperson is not able to tell us whether the reorganisation will put any jobs at stake. ‘But that is not the basis for the reorganisation’, he says.
