TMA Student may not do an internship in Israel

Gepubliceerd: 17 February 2016 • Leestijd: 1 minuten en 6 seconden • English Dit artikel is meer dan een jaar oud.

A fourth-year TMA student wants to do a placement in the country where his girlfriend lives and where he wants to go after finishing his degree: Israel. However, the RBS Exam Board disagrees. The study programme focuses on the Far East. That does not include Israel.

Complaint by: Trade Management Asia student
Regarding: Placement in Israel
Decision: Complaint dismissed

In the summer of 2015, he was awarded a certificate from Tel Aviv University that confirms he is able to speak Hebrew in a corporate setting. In addition, the student claims it is not stated anywhere that internships must be done in specific countries. However, according to the Exam Board, it was clear from the outset that the study programme focuses on Asia.

The Exam Board says management is also difficult at such a distance. Nonsense, according to the student. Communication can take place via Skype. In the worst case, he could fly back and forth in a day. A return ticket only costs 130 Euros.

The student carefully substantiated his request by demonstrating how he could fulfil the required competencies with this placement. However, the Exam Board believes these competencies could also be achieved another way during the study programme.

The student explains that he also has contacts at a company that can help him get a placement position in Indonesia. However, that would be difficult for him, he says. He has a girlfriend in Israel. She is unable to enter Indonesia due to her nationality. This is because Indonesia does not have diplomatic ties with Israel. This means he will be able to spend little time with her. The two have already commenced the application procedure for registering for a civil partnership.

The Board of Appeal for the examinations believes it adequately considered the student’s personal circumstances, but does not believe there are grounds to overturn its decision.
The student loses the case. He may not go to Israel for his placement.

One Response to TMA Student may not do an internship in Israel

  1. “However, according to the Exam Board, it was clear from the outset that the study programme focuses on Asia.” Sorry to say this, this come from a group of highly educated people again HIGHLY EDUCATED PEOPLE! this is so very ignorant and stupid to say this

This is so typical western or white attitude, in their eyes Asia=countries who speak like nihao, arigato, with a fancy handwriting, and most specially people with slanted eyes.

According to my geography teachers from elementary up to highschool Israel is part of Asia. What really is misleading with the name of TMA is the word ASIA, the definition of Asia is South-East and East-Asia only. In my humble opion the school should then change the word Asia to East-Asia.

This is so typical ROTTERDAM BUSINESS SCHOOL
